Few questions weigh on the heart like this one, especially after losing someone we love or facing our own mortality. The Bible does not leave us guessing. It speaks plainly about what lies beyond the grave, and it offers a sure and settled hope.
Death is appointed, and so is what follows
Scripture is honest that death comes to us all. But it does not stop there. It says something follows.
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"Hebrews 9:27
We are not simply bodies that stop. We are souls who will stand before God. That truth is sobering, but it is also the reason hope is possible.
For the believer, death means being with the Lord
For the one who has trusted Christ, death is not a leap into darkness. It is a homecoming. To leave this body is to be present with the Lord.
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."2 Corinthians 5:8
"In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you."John 14:2
Heaven is described as a place with no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain, where God Himself wipes away every tear (Revelation 21:4). For the child of God, the best is yet to come.
Eternity is real, and the choice is now
The Bible also teaches the reality of a final separation from God for those who reject Him. This is not said to frighten you, but to love you enough to tell you the truth while there is still time to respond.
"...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."2 Corinthians 6:2
How to be ready
You do not have to wonder where you will spend eternity. The moment you trust Jesus Christ as your Savior, your eternity is settled and secure. If you are not certain you are ready, you can be, today. Read how to be saved, or reach out to us. We would count it a joy to talk and pray with you about the hope that is stronger than the grave.
