Many people are told they must pick between the Bible and science, as if believing one means rejecting the other. That is an honest concern, and the Bible speaks to it plainly. Scripture does not war against true science. It teaches that God is the Author of both the natural world and its order.
The short answer
The Bible teaches that God created all things, and that His creation is orderly because He is orderly. True science, the careful study of what God made, does not contradict this. The conflict is not science against faith, but one worldview against another over questions of origin.
God is the Creator of all things
Scripture opens with a clear statement about where everything came from. It does not argue for God's existence. It assumes it, and declares that He made the world.
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."Genesis 1:1
The Bible teaches that creation itself testifies to a Maker. When we look at the vastness of space and the precision of the world, we are looking at the work of God's hands.
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork."Psalm 19:1
What true science actually does
Science, at its best, observes, measures, and describes the world around us. That work honors the God who set the world in order. The trouble comes when a theory about unobserved past origins is presented as settled fact and used to push the Creator out.
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse."Romans 1:20
The believer has nothing to fear from careful observation. Every genuine discovery is a discovery of something God already made.
Where evolution and Scripture diverge
The Bible teaches that God made living things to reproduce after their own kind, and that man was a special, direct creation, not the product of blind processes over long ages.
"And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so."Genesis 1:11
"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."Genesis 2:7
We hold this position with conviction, but also with kindness. We are not asking anyone to stop thinking. We are inviting you to consider that the design you see everywhere points to a Designer who loves you.
A common misunderstanding
Some think faith means turning off your mind, and that believing in creation is anti-intellectual. But Scripture never asks us to believe against evidence. It asks us to see the evidence rightly. The Bible calls it foolish, not wise, to look at creation and conclude there is no Creator.
"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God..."Psalm 14:1
Believing God made the world is not a retreat from reason. It is the most reasonable response to a universe full of design, purpose, and order.
